An Invitation to Serve

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.
And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord...
But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

Dayspring offers a variety of opportunities for those who desire to exercise their unique talents for the edification of the community. Offering gifts of time, talent, and service makes a difference in the quality of life at Dayspring, and we welcome all people to get involved (membership not required). This is a place to explore and discover your passions and gifts in a supportive faith community.

On Sunday Mornings

There is a flow to our Sunday worship service, but volunteers are a vital ingredient. We invite volunteers to welcome worshippers, read scripture, offer prayers, serve communion, share musical talents, or help decorate our sanctuary. No formal training is needed—only a desire to contribute to the community’s worship experience.

At Dayspring

We do not have committees, but many ministries of the church are always open to volunteers. We invite everyone to sign-up fresh each year, giving people the chance to serve in new ways or take a season of rest as needed. Serving in these various forms provides the opportunity for volunteers to use their talents as well as get to know others in the congregation.

In the St. Louis Community

Dayspring has a history of service to the community with many individual members volunteering at organizations that serve St. Louis in many different ways. Our congregational mission focus for 2024 includes participating in projects at not-for-profits dealing with homelessness and partnering in ministry with other local churches who are serving the community.

Projects

Like all pervasive issues that impact large numbers of people, homelessness is a complex problem. This year we will be identifying projects in conjunction with the Salvation Army, Beyond Housing, and the United Way Volunteer Center that include:

  • hands-on service at various locations

  • opportunities for families to serve with children

  • alternative service opportunities for those for whom site work is not practical

Dayspring’s Missions Ministry will select the project of the month and organize our response which will give us an opportunity to make a difference, learn more about homelessness an get to know one another better.  You are not expected to participate in all of the projects but as your interest and schedule permits.

Ministry Together

The Antioch Baptist Church is located in the Ville and has had a very active outreach program in that community. Dayspring and Second Baptist Church, another suburban congregation, will be partnering with The Antioch Baptist Church on several projects in 2024. We began by participating in Antioch’s 2023 Christmas gift program, providing gifts for families who found themselves in financial need. The families completed a wish list, and the supporting churches participated by purchasing the gifts, wrapping and bundling them, taking them to the church, and helping distribute them at Christmas. This is one step toward Dayspring’s goal to intentionally strengthen our relationship with Antioch and our neighbors in their neighborhood.

Partnerships beyond St. Louis

Denominational Partners

Dayspring extends its ministry through its equal association with the American Baptist Churches, USA (ABC) and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF). We are active in the regional work of each of these denominations: the ABC’s Great Rivers Region, and CBF Heartland.

International Partners

Dayspring also participates in the international work of both ABC and CBF. We support CBF field personnel Jana Lee who is working with refugees in Cypress. We also support Brian and Lynette Smith and their family, ABC global servants who work among Haitian immigrants living in the Dominican Republic.

Network Partners

Dayspring also supports and partners with various networks that connect us to churches around the country and you can find more information about them by clicking their name:
